Dr. Hashim Issa Mohamed

Dr. HashimIssa Mohamed is a Senior Lecturer of Language and Communication. He is based in the Department of Language Studies of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, at Sokoine University of Agriculture. He holds a Doctorate (specialised in Applied Linguistics) from the University of Western Cape – South Africa, Master of Arts in Linguistics degree from the University of Leeds, and Diploma in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. In addition, Dr Hashim holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education degree (Linguistics and English Language Teaching) from the University of Dar es Salaam, which laid a strong foundation for his career in General and Applied Linguistics, Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and communication Research. He has authored two books, and published articles in local and international journals.

Research interests include English language teaching, language and communication studies, discourse analysis, and metadiscourse studies. Among the major recent research undertakings include Exploring best practices and the use of e-learning and communicative language teaching under iAGRI-SUA Project, at Tshwane University of Technology, University of Pretoria, University of Limpopo, University of Cape Coast, and the University of Ghana) in June 2014.

Apart from teaching, he was Head of Department of the then Department of Social Sciences for ten years. He is currently a Coordinator of English Language Resource Centre which deals with TESOL and Language Proficiency Programs for students and general public, and short courses and seminars on writing for graduate students. He has also taught at Mzumbe University, University of Dodoma, and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. He has been involved in the research supervision of students at bachelors to PhD level at SUA and University of Dodoma.
