Fausta Marcelllus Mapunda

Professional Biography

 

Dr. Mapunda is a PhD holder obtained at Wageningen University, the Netherlands.She holds Masters of science in agricultural economics and Bachelor degree in agricultural economics and agribusiness from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania. Ms. Mapunda works for the Sokoine University of agriculture as a lecturer, researcher, and consultant. As a primary role, Ms. Mapunda teaches three courses: (1) Project financing course to Masters of Project monitoring and Evaluation, (2) Project Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation (3) Industrial Development Planning to undergraduate students. Professionally, Dr. Mapunda is an agricultural economist vested with key skills in but not limited to undertaking assignments related to project designing, implementation, monitoring and impact evaluation, household economic surveys and value chain analysis. She is an expert in assessing food and nutritional security. Ms Mapunda is knowledgeable in advanced econometrics quantitative techniques using STATA software. Ms. Fausta advanced her carrier by attending a regional training course on gender and macroeconomic policy, planning and budgeting. Ms. Mapunda gained more experience by participating in various researches funded by the International Initiatives for Impact Evaluation (3ie), DANIDA, NORAD, FAO, and the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE). Dr. Mapunda has worked on gender analysis along the poultry value chain and developing business models for breeding and distributing chicken lines with Newcastle disease resistance. Ms. Mapunda has actively worked as a co-investigator of Innovation and markets for the Lake Victoria Fisheries (IMLAF) project funded by DANIDA. She is an expert in project impact evaluation and project findings dissemination.

Research Projects

1. Co- investigator of the project’’ Optimizing vaccination and biosecurity regimes to enhance fight against antimicrobial resistance in commercial poultry production in Tanzania’ 2022-2025. A project funded by international centre for antimicrobial solutions (ICAS), worth USD 564,637.09

2. Co- investigator of the project “Mitigating the spread of antimicrobials and resistant microbes through treatment of manure” 2022-2025: A project funded by the international centre for antimicrobial solutions (ICAS), worth USD 564,699.5

3. Co-investigator of the project titled “Innovations and markets for Lake Victoria Fisheries (IMLAF)”, a five years project 2015-2019 funded by DANIDA worth DKK 9,829,998. The project focused on reducing post-harvest loss in the Lake Victoria sardines fisheries.

4. Coordinator IMLAF project findings dissemination to promote adoption of sand-free sardines processing technologies, and marketing of quality sardines
for household income, food and nutritional security. This was done through mass Media by attending live television shows (TBC), preparing radio
programs, production of documentary.

5. Coordinated a household survey data collection for an impact evaluation for a project titled’’ Integrated development programs in Sub Sahara Africa: Does a
multi-faceted market-based approach to food crops stimulate food security and agricultural development in the breadbasket of Tanzania. The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) funded the assignment. I participated in tools verification, training of 24 enumerators on efficient data collection, and quantitative and qualitative data collection. September 2016 – November 2016

6. A researcher on land rights and rural livelihood improvement in Tanzania: Opportunities or constraints? The case of certificate of customary right of occupancy (CCRO) in Mbozi, Rungwe and Mbinga districts funded by the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP). Data were collected from August 2013- to December, 2014

7. Co-investigator: Project titled ‘Increasing employment opportunities and marketability of fish and fish products in the Lake Victoria basin through reduction of post-harvest losses’ funded by DANIDA (DKK 300,000) through Building Stronger Universities (BSU)

8. Principle Investigator: project titled ‘’Collaborative governance for sustainable land management between commercial and subsistence crop producers in Kilosa and Kilombero Districts, Tanzania’’ 2011-2012. A Grant project worth 30,000 Swiss Franc (SF) funded by the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of Switzerland.

Consultacies

1. September to November 2023: Consulted CARE International to conduct a baseline survey on sunflower and soybean value chains FFBS scale up project in Iringa Tanzania.

2. October 2020 to June 2021:Consulted Abt Associates Inc. to support qualitative lead consultant of gender work in the AgResults Tanzania Dairy Productivity Project. The project aims to strengthen the ability of smallholder farmers to increase dairy production to meet the growing demand for milk in Tanzania. I organized and coordinated field interviews for qualitative data
collection in Morogoro and Tanga regions

3. March 2020: Consulted the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) on gender analysis along poultry value chain on assessment and development of business models for breeding and distribution of chicken lines with Newcastle disease resistance. The work is already published (see Enahoro et al., 2021).
