Sokoine Memorial Lecture

Lecture

This lecture is an occasion of commemorating commitment, handwork and tireless efforts of the late Edward Moringe Sokoine, the former Prime Minister of Tanzania.

Sokoine University of Agriculture has been organizing an Annual Memorial Lecture to remember the late Edward Moringe Sokoine, the former Prime Minister of Tanzania. It has been the University’s tradition to invite a Guest Speaker to speak on that day on any topic of relevance to our nation’s development.

Sokoine Memorial Lectures were inaugurated on 10th April 1992 by the then Vice – Chairman of Chama cha Mapinduzi , Hon. Rashidi Mfaume Kawawa.

Sokoine University of Agriculture has been setting a day to remember the late Edward Moringe Sokoine not only due to fact that the University has been named after him, but largely because of his commitment to development of Tanzania focusing greatly the ordinary Tanzanians – whoa re the majority poor farmers.

“Sokoine‘s support to agriculture and rural development in general was indisputable. He pursued what he believed in with a lot of determination, zeal and great sense of patriotism. It is indeed heart warming that this University has chosen to organize the Annual Sokoine Memorial Lectures, to remind ourselves periodically, of the person, and the ideals he stood for. It is my hope that these lectures do also serve to inspire the Sokoine University of Agriculture community to strive towards greater commitment to Agricultural Development and National Development in general.”
