Bureau of Development Research and Consultancy

The Bureau of Development Research and Consultancy was established in December 17, 2015. The establishment of the Bureau is in line with the core functions of SUA, which include undertaking research. This Bureau plays a essential role in spearheading research on development issues in the CSSH and hence contributes in fulfilling the research objectives of SUA. It constantly scouts and monitors emerging development oriented research opportunities.

The Bureau serves as a unit for enhancing income for the College and University at large through collaborative writing of research proposals on contemporary issues (e.g. gender, public budget in development, governance, and language and education) with different researchers / institutions from within and outside the country. In this way, research opportunities are tapped and, therefore, funds for research activities are obtained.

The Bureau carries over the functions which were implemented initially through SCSRD, one of the three units which merged into the CSSH. Among those functions includes developing and validating appropriate methodologies (models) that can be used for guiding research-based sustainable rural development in Tanzania.

In summary, the functions of the Bureau of Development Oriented Research include:

  1. To coordinate joint research activities which integrate all the Departments under the CSSH
  2. To search for and exploit various development-oriented research opportunities advertised by different funding organizations/development partners locally, regionally and globally.
  3. To collaborate with other national and international organizations in developing research themes and funding arrangements and in carrying out joint research
  4. To develop and test community development models for guiding sustainable rural development
